As a young writer trying to establish my credibility in the publication world in my country Papua New Guinea, I ran into many hurdles. Apart from outright rejections from traditional publishing houses; high cost of editing, proof reading, cover designs, all beat me down hard.

So I got into self-publishing. That is the beginning of a new era. It simply became my stream of income. I wrote an ebook about Hub Pages Earning that sold like hot cakes in my country, Papua New Guinea and is still selling best.

Many friends saw unexpected success of my ebook and asked so many questions like. How did you did you write that ebook, what information did you included, how are you marketing your ebook? These endless questions motivated me to document my success as a guide to others who are considering following the path I took. That is to write ebooks for income.

Why an Ebook?

Here is my list of the goodies I discovered from publishing my own ebooks. You can add yours to mine and that is absolutely OK.

  • Gain personal independence.
  • Establish yourself as an expert.
  • Improve your cash flow
  • Reach a global market in no time flat.
  • Receive instant payments from clients.
  • Provide immediate delivery with no processing hassles.
  • Create & run the business YOUR way.

Creating an ebook

There is no best way to create an ebook. What may work for me may not work for you or another person. But with success under my belt as author of a fastselling ebook in my country, I have found certain things that, may as well hold the key to your ebook success. Here, I list sections of your ebook that you should consider looking at when creating your own.

Topic

I didn't just wake up and wrote an ebook that sold. No. I wrote about something I know and I am passionate about. Infect, when new hubbers in Papua New Guinea ask me “Ian, what do I write about”…My simple answer is write about what you know and are passionate about.

Identify your market before you write an ebook. That is important. If there is demand for information in a particular topic, then write an ebook based on what consumers want.

Length

There is no Law that says “All ebooks must be X pages”. Some ebooks I have read are even 5 pages long and sell so well. Some are 100 pages and still sell. On the contrary, some 5 pagers and 100 pages don’t even sell a copy.

My advice is just put enough. If you can say more in less than a 5 page ebook, go for it. If you think you can do more in 100 pages ebook, by all means go for it.

You are your own boss. The bottom line is to say what you have to say in a concise, organized, and comprehensive fashion.

Title

Title is the most important part of your ebook. Title is the first thing readers see and form impression about you. If your title is DEAD, customers will easily walk away from our book even though you packed the book with relevant information. I have devised a hub on how to write catchy titles, Visit that hub.

Unique Content

With the high level of competition in the ebook market, packing your digital work with unique content is the key to its overall success. Your knowledge of and passion for your chosen topic will allow you to provide key insights to the reader that other ebooks don’t offer. Hone in on these points and highlight them in your book

Format

I am sure there are other formats available. But I used PDF. It is simple and straight forward. One of the reason is that many ebooks I order from Amazon are in PDF format so I guess I make it easy for myself and my readers and use the format many are familiar with.

Editing

Edit! Edit! Edit.. Some people think publishing an ebook is so easy. Yes it is if you don't put professional touches to it. In the long run, your reputation would be spoil because of the viral nature of web. Nothing is so frustrating as a reader to encounter glaring grammatical errors after every paragraph. If you a dead serious to earn like me, get a credible person to proof read your ebook before you publish it.

Cover Design

Producing a professional Cover Design is an icing on the cake. professional covers makes your ebook stand out amongst others. It gives the impression that you are an expert in your niche. So if you are serious, get a professional to design your ebook cover. Sites like Fiver, elance, odesk are sites where you can source professional online to design your ebook cover.

I had brought a nice software and design my own ebook covers. It really is something you must consider if your ebook has to sell for the fact that many people buy on impulse. Entice their appetite with professional ebook covers and you are on....

Publishing your ebook

Publishing your ebook should be a whole lot more easier task with a simple PDF creator converter. What you need to do is to find and install PDF Creator software into your PC. One done, you can follow the steps below to convert your ebook in MS word document to PDF and sell it for income. It’s that simple. I recommend PDF creator because it is simple to use and is the most accepted ebook format sold in web giants like Amazon. Once your ebook is in PDF format, you can then promote in your website or social sites or sell them in affiliate sites like Amazon.

Marketing and Selling Your ebook

Every task we do on earth as its core activities. In business, elling is the oxygen or the air that business owners need to stay alive. If you can’t sell, either your product or idea, there is no point in trying to be in business. Because you failed even before you start. You must SELL! SELL! SELL! So here I give some powerful tips to sell your ebooks.

Identify Your Target Market

Not everyone will be eager to buy your ebook. But there will be certain groups of people who will b interested in your book. Your task is to find out that core group and target your marketing effort to that group.

Price to Sell

Again no one will tell you how to set your book price. But the important thing is to start at low price and build you reputation. You can still win if you reduce your price but increase volume of sales. That is the technique I use.

Create an Eye-Catching Landing Page

A landing page is a single webpage that appears as a result of clicking on an advertisement. A successful landing page is particularly focused on whatever product or service you are offering, with the end goal being a sale of your ebook to the customer.

Social sites

Social sites are best can be the best avenue to sell your ebooks to targeted groups. Promote your ebook on social sites. I sell more on face book in my country.

Word of mouth

The most cheapest and easy to use marketing strategy is word of mouth. Tell your friends and friends of your friends about your ebook.

Email

One easy way to target a core group is to use email. Email those whom you thing will be interested in your ebook. The bottom line is to sell so do what ever you must to sell your ebooks.

Conclusion

You just read the best guide to writing, publishing and selling your ebook. But this information will not work until you test the ideas out. Don’t just read the hub but study it closely. Though simple and easy to follow, it took me great pain trying to cover as much as possible and only the relevant information. There are more to ebook publishing and it may take life to cover everything. Read and above all DO. I wish you best in your ebook business.
