What Are The Four Biggest Crimes Committed in Hub pages That Can Kill Your Success
69
I had to make the title sound serious enough because if you are serious to do well in hub pages then it is only better that you don't commit any one of the four biggest crimes that I will discuss shortly. Hub pages like any other social institutions that deals with human beings, has its own set of laws that do not seek to destroy us but make us prosper as writers.
I developed this hub after two of my hubs (poems) got unpublished by hubpages. I have committed all the four crimes and received what I love to tell myself as "Corporal Punishment" from hub pages. You will know what I did and got my hub unpublished. Interesting isn't it?
I had to develop this hub to prevent you receiving the whipping I received from hubpages. They say prevention is better than cure. Therefore as a descent citizen of hubpages community, read this hub thoroughly and practice what you read and you will never go wrong.
Crime # 1: Duplicate Content
This crime occurs quit often not only with the newbies but even some veteran hubbers also commit this crime. I published a poem in hub pages that I have already published in my blog page. So my hub was unpublished. Never do this. Full stop. Don't even copy and paste few information from other sites without proper referencing. Hub page has a software that scans all sites to see if your hub does appear in other sites or not
I wish to thank this hubber "Cardisa" for helping me out oh this bit.
Crime # 2: Water Marked or Pixelate Photos or Videos
Hub pages regulations do not allow us to use water marked or pixelate photos or videos. Hubpages does this to maintain high standards in its site. If you break hubpages heart by throwing in low quality photos and videos, hubpages will break your heart to. More or less like give and get situation.
My second poem violated hubpages regulations so it was unpublished.
Crime # 3: Deceptive Tags, Titles or Category
I am a firm believer of the saying "Honesty is the best policy". Never try to use deceptive tags, titles or categories in your hubs. Hubpages will find out and penalise you. I have to be honest here with you that being honest will not make you successful overnight. But it will help you build a good reputation in the hubbing community and in the long run become admired and respected for your honesty and success will come your way naturally.
Crime # 4: Incorrect URL addresses
This crime inst as serious as I myself consider it. You will be notified if you commit this crime. You can correct the URL or choose to ignore. Now put yourself in this situation. You are reading a hub and the hub author provides a link to another site. When you click the link, you find a dead page. I mean the page can't load because the URL addresses provided is incorrect. How do you feel?
This is one of the best methods to loose the trust of your viewers and loss money if you want to make money here in hub pages.
Final Words
You must know that every time you violate hubpage regulations, your hub score drops. For those those who are here to make money with hubpages, this is certainly not a good news. For those who write for pleasure, this isn't much of an issue.
Was the hub useful

Lol'd at the pictures. :p Nice advice.
Great information for all the newbies like my self to take note.
This is advice that is very useful when writing hubs. These are mistakes I will be more aware of when writing my hubs. Thanks for the good information.
Good advice. I had problem with issue#1, duplicate content. My hub part2 repeated some of the text in hub part1 (same topic, only it's a continuation) It got unpublished until I had it rectified. Yeah, it can be frustrating for new hubbers to figure out what went wrong. This article will really help us all.
Well done, useful, interesting and voted up. It is always good to read a hub that contains advice to other hubbers, especially one based from actual experience.
This was indeed good advice.
Did you know that there are a couple free sites that you can load your hub into to check for plagiarism issues right after you publish? One is www.copyscape.com and the other is www.Plagiarisma.Net. You can even load your text into the second website before inserting into hubpages to be assured that you have no violations.
You will be notified of incorrect URL addresses on your accounts page. It is great to have this service done for us.
Great hub and great advice.
Welcome to Hubpages. It has been a great place for me.
Another great Ian. Despite the fact that I know all these rules, I have read you hub with enjoyment ant great interest. Thank you for sharing.
Thank goodness I'm not a crook! Thanks for the info.
Great hub! Two happened to me, but I felt it was more haphazard than intentional. Won't happen again!!
I appreciate your honesty! You should add a 5th crime: Following Hubbers just for the sake of getting more followers! I committed that crime myself and have paid by a lower HubberScore! Great advice for all Hubbers. Voted up!
JSMatthew~
I think that calling these things Crimes is ridiculous.
When ever these violations are claimed by hp, they should provide the necessary documentation to produce to the hubber. The hubber should be able to see and understand the violation rather than just a ticket.
I submitted a hub that was cast down by the hp robot, claiming a substantial portion of the hub was duplicated. How could I edit the hub when I had no idea what they were referencing. With large hubs, it would be difficult to try and figure out where was the alleged violation.
I am more than happy to redo a hub, but I need more specifics.
I seriously doubt the hp has been able to remove bad hubs, as I see them all the time. Advertisements in the guise of a hub.
I voted this hub down, so you will probably flag me because I voiced an opinion.
violation is bad enough but to use the word crime is ridiculous.
Additionally there should be some arbitration before hubbers are suspended, especially when it is permanent.
Now that is a crime.
go tell on me...
Ian, another wow from me. Your hub is brilliant advice for all of us in Hub Land, even those who like myself have been around for a while. I have also made mistakes in my time here. My first hubs are horrendous reads, as I didn't pay attention to quality, and the pix-elated photos was often pointed out. I also have been accused of duplication, which was correct, as I had also posted my hub on another site. All in all, thou I still consider Hub Pages one of the best sites for serious writers, and you are quickly moving up the scale to join us. Thank you hunnie, Net:)
Ian this is a great hub. I have some new hubbers following me that didn't have the help I had to get started so I share these kinds of hubs with my followers when I come across them. Your's is easy to read and the pictures are great.
Great hub Ian, with very useful information. I learned a lot by reading the learning center, forums, and other "older" hubbers before I started to write, so I could avoid any penalties. I had a deathly fear of being flagged. Now, two years later, I have tried to pass my knowledge on to other hubbers. My biggest bit of advice for new hubbers is to make sure read the Learning Center and forums. This way if something is changed, they can keep up with it. Thanks for sharing this helpful information.
Thanks for sharing the reasons for unpublished hubs and also to retain the status of this site..
I agree. Required reading for all hubbers. Voting this Up and Interesting.
Great advice. Well done. Voted up. This should help new hubbers!
This was really well done, really important information, delivered direct and to the point! Thank you, and honesty is great!
Voted way up!!!!!!!!!!!
