Review

This book was written in 1937. How was that possible and how did this book cause such a dramatic transition in lives of millions around the world and still does today? That is what you will discover soon.

There lies in the book riches in your mind to discover and nurture ideas and thoughts that will flow when acted upon which can turn the greatest ideas, visions and dreams into a reality. The book reveals wealth; the secrets that millionaires and billionaires have used to create their empires and is freely available yet most will not take it. This book discovers that all wealth begins with a single thought, that if acted upon with a definite purpose and strong desire, it then becomes possible to turn an idea into physical reality.

The Thirteen Steps to Riches described in this book offer the 24 shortest dependable philosophy of individual achievement ever presented for the benefit of the man or woman who is searching for a definite goal in life.

2. Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki

This book shows you how to make money work for you rather than you working for money.

Rich Dad Poor Dad compares perfectly, the difference between a poor or broke person’s mindset to that of a wealthy person. The book uncovers the myths surrounding money and challenges long held belief system on wealth creation.

The author uses his two dads’ whom he calls Rich Dad and Poor Dad to help the readers understand the principles of wealth creation. His Rich Dad is academically smart but lacks financial intelligence and so struggles financially until he dies broke. His Poor Dad, though not academically smart is financially intelligent and builds an empire and becomes financially free.

There are also many controversial surround this book. Some say it’s just a fiction book life Harry Potter. My opinion is, if this book, even though it may be a work of fiction, the book carries wealth of wisdom and insights into understanding your blue print of financial success, making plans and following proven strategies to grow your wealth.

If there is one particular thing that I could recommend is this book to you, I suggest you learn how to turn your earned income to passive (real estate) and portfolio income (paper assets). He calls this financial intelligence and discusses it in depth. How well do you know how to turn your wages to revenue generating assets so that your money works for you? If you don’t know, then this book is the place to start.

I now take a greater control of my finances after reading this great book and I see no reason why you should do the same if you desire financial freedom.

3. Awaken The Giant Within by Anthony Robbins

Review

There lies deep within every person a source of greater power and intelligence. Science calls it infinite intelligence. Religious literature describes it using their own terminologies. Discovering this deeper source of piece and abundance helps one realise his true potential.

There is no better suited to describe this than Anthony Robbins. I have been following Anthony Robbins work over almost a decade now and I confidently say, this is a must read book if you really want to take greater control of your life, realise your dreams and live a unique lifestyle.

Awaken The Giant Within helps you discover your real self and purpose and concentrate your thoughts and emotions to attaining your goals in life.

4. E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber

E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber
E-Myth Revisited by Michael Gerber

Review

Each your millions around the world get into business thinking that business may bring them the financial freedom they need. There is so much truth in that as there is so much challenges. The very few that make it visible or invisible icons of success. However, very few people share their experiences and expertise on how to build successful business and do it in such a way that even a least educated person can understand the principles and apply to building successful business. Many business books are compacted with fancy business formulas and theories that don’t even work at all in reality.

Discussing the complex nature of business to anyone that has no experience in business is a challenging task and I as an educator know that perfectly well. However, Michael Gerber takes this complex subject and succinctly weaves it into a masterpiece of educational material that just about anybody can read and understand easily.

Like living things, business has a life. From birth to death, either immature or old age and even death. Understanding this is critical for success of your business and E-Myth Revisited uncovers life of a business entrepreneurial infancy, through adolescent growing pains, to the mature entrepreneurial perspective, the guiding light of all businesses that succeed. But that’s not all, the book also shows you the distinction between working IN your business and working ON your business. He says if you work IN your business, you are your own employee, with even less time for yourself. If you work on your business, then obviously, someone will work for you and you can use that as a leverage to build more wealth. How exciting.

6.The Dip by Seth Godin

Review

The book is really about goals and choice if I can put it that way. There are some goals that is worth all the trouble in the world. If that is happening to you, the author describes this situation as you being in a Dip. Dip as you shall discover in the book is a temporary setback that that if positively viewed are challenges that pushes you to bring the best out of your abilities in achieving your goals.

But that is not always the case as the author says. Sometimes, your situation will never get better at all. What do you then? Should you hang on few more months or years to see? What if the time wasted hanging on could be used in some productive ways? It is worth the wait? Dr. Myles Munroe once said “The poorest man on earth is a person without a dream”. Do you really want to be the poorest person on earth by letting go of your dream and living other people’s dreams? This book will help you make these critical decisions. Bear in mind when you read the book that there is no such thing as failure. You only fail when you quit your dreams.

Review

Many people have misconception on business when it comes to branding. They think business is all about competition. This book will greatly challenge what you think you know about competition. It will challenge your perception on positioning your product in today’s crowded market place.

It is an interesting book because like Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, the book is based on real examples. The authors actually based the book on a study of 150 strategic moves spanning more than a hundred years and thirty industries. The core message in the book is not to compete but instead create an uncontested market space. What a best way to learn then from real examples used in the book.

9. Good to Great by Jim Collins

Review

This is one out of the 13 books I reviewed in this hub covers in depth business leadership. In this short, Good to Great is about leadership. Success of any organizations depends on the type of leader that leads the organization. A business will only grow to the extent its leaders grow. In this yet another masterpiece, you will discover how good companies, mediocre companies, even bad companies achieve enduring greatness.

The book talks about leaders being true to themselves and their followers and the decisions they make so as to maintain their integrity and lead their organizations to greater success. The book takes a no nonsense approach to addressing leadership issues in business. If you really want to be the best of what you already are, Good to Great is the book for you.

Some people say what you doesn’t matter much more than where you came from. You will discover in this book that this is true. Often times we look at the success of a person and marvel at who they are. What if often missed are the struggles, the aches, pains and even tears one has to go through to realise success.

Outliers come with some impressive, yet very simple calculations that give you mathematical certainty on how to realise your goals in life. You discover in the book that to become an expert at anything in life, you need to put in 10,000 hours. If you want to be an expert real estate person, you want to be an expert author. If you read the book and did basic calculations, it would take It takes five years at forty hours a week to equal 10,000 hours. Outliers makes you realise that process of becoming successful must be understood if you are to really understand the real success behind the successful person you are looking at in any one time. There are deeper psychological connotations as you discover how a person’s culture, generation and idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing help shape their future success.

Aspiring entrepreneurs, this is another must read book. Business concepts covered easily overlap with those in The Lean Start Up. I have been blogging for almost two years and when I read this great book, my approach to producing paid articles either on Hubpages or in my blog changed dramatically. Not to forget I enjoy handsome earnings from Hubpages monthly.

Inbound Marketing technically covers practical strategies on how to position your business online so that you easily discovered in major search engines like Google, the blogosphere and social media sites.

Cut down your information addiction and order this book if you want to increase your chance of getting discovered online and making some profit

12. Rework by Jason Fried, David Heinemeier Hansson

Rework by Jason Fried, David Heinemeier Hansson
Rework by Jason Fried, David Heinemeier Hansson

Review

A controversial read with. But comes with promise of a better, faster, easier way to succeed in business. It’s more like the controversial approach taken by Rich Dad Poor Dad written By Robert Kiyosaki.

Rework challenges your long held beliefs of planning. It says planning is actually harmful. There are some truths in the way the concept was argued. I unfortunately didn’t but the argument of the author. On the author’s argument on competition, I have greater clarity after reading The Blue Ocean Strategy. He says you’re better off ignoring the competition. If you read The Blue Ocean Strategy, you will realise that it’s better to create un uncontested market than to try to compete with others.

The book goes on to list few things which as I stated earlier maybe not be the way your expect. The author recons you need to think less, work less, have less number of staff and even don’t need to have an office.

Bottom line is that even if you don’t have all of, or few or less of the things listed, you can still do better in business to which I agree. Success is a matter of mindset and if you mindset is wired to success, whatever you touch, be it many or less, big or small, will be turned to gold.

A read challenging read indeed.

We all want to be successful in business but when some get there, they soon realise all their time is taken up by business and they have less time to enjoy things they used to do with family and friends who mean the most to them. As such, their social life suffers and eventually affects their business.

There is also a misconception that building your own business leads to financial freedom. That one will be happy and financially free at last.

There is a dilemma; 1. to build a business that works with you. That when you are not there, your business dies. 2. To build a business that work without you. That when you gone for holiday, your business is still operating and its even making profit when you return.

This book is the blue print of building a business that works without you. It is creating a system, that continuously generate cash flow and allows you to enjoy your social life.

General conclusion

All this 13 books have two things in common. First they talk about business as is the title of this hub suggested. Secondly, they talk about achievement. And few talked about the process in becoming successful either in business or life in general.

But there is one very powerful thing all this 13 books have in common. “IDEAS”. They all talked about business idea. Money ideas. Investment ideas. Successful life ideas. Ideas of all magnitudes. Ideas to be successful in life. Ideas about starting business, ideas about positioning your product in the crowded world today. Ideas about financial independence and ideas that challenged your well held beliefs systems. They are nothing but a gold mine of ideas.

Ideas are like vehicles. Ready to drive you to your destination. But a vehicle can’t move unless there is a driver behind the wheels. Even then, if there is a driver behind the wheels, he has to know how to drive or else he throws the vehicle into the drain by just turning the ignition on. Your task after reading at least one of two or even all of the books here is to get yourself educated as the driver of your life’s destination. Use the ideas and they will take you to your desired life unique and abundance.
