The Eleven Minutes is the story of Maria, a Brazilian girl whose first innocent brushes with love leaves her heart broken. At a tender age, she becomes convinced that she will never find true love, instead believing that 'Love is a terrible thing' that makes one suffer. A chance meeting in Rio takes her to Geneva, where she dreams of finding fame and fortune yet ends up working as a prostitute.

In Geneva, Maria drifts further away from love while at the same time developing a fascination of sex. Eventually, Maria's despairing view of love is put to test when she meets a handsome young painter.

In this odyssey of self-discovery, Maria has to choose between pursuing a path of darkness and sexual pleasure or risk everything to find who the real Maria is and find discover her inner self and possibility of enjoying sacred sex in the context of true love. The book is written in a narrative form where there author Paulo Coelho narrates the story of Maria, the protagonist in the novel. Paulo with his gripping and daring writing style captures the reader from the start and makes the reader refusing to put the book down till the last page.

I bough the book at the street in Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea. Eleven Minute is one of the best novel about sex and love I have read. It is the modern fable of love and sex told in simple and plain language. The novel is more than just a captivating read. It offers more insights into the sacred truths about love and sex. It is a very educational book.

I have never been to Brazil but I can easily relate to the story, seeing the current problems faced by young people in cities like Port Moresby and Lae. Sex, Beer and Money are real issues that has to be seriously dealt in all governmental and religions corridors and every society at large. As a matter of fact, I strongly relate to the destitution described in the book.

In a much broader context, Paulo Coelho teaches us in this novel some sensitive social, cultural and economical lessons. A job well done to the author.

I am not sure who I should recommend this book to. Don't smile at me. I'm captivated and if you like, stimulated by this book. Lolz. If Paulo reads my hub, he maybe smiling and saying, common Ian! Not too hard, you don't want your hormones to run riot don't you. loz.

OK. let me think. Those who enjoy reading romantic books will enjoy this book. Those like me who are always searching for reasons why things happen the way they do will enjoy it. This I mean if If you are bit more philosophical. Huh!

Otherwise, it is a great read and any body who picks this book up will undoubted;y enjoy it.
